Tim Giarrusso
Human Technologies
President and Chief Executive Officer
For the last 13 years, Tim Giarrusso has taken over 27 years of experience from the for profit arenas into the not for profit sector by leading vibrant, self-sufficient social enterprises. Tim is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer for Human Technologies in Utica, NY. Human Technologies is a multi-million dollar “self-sufficient social enterprise”, whose mission is to create employment for people with disabilities. Of the 330 employees across New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Virginia, over two thirds are people with disabilities. Human Technologies specializes in finding the abilities within people. At the core of the organization’s success are three beliefs; “each of us makes an impact, work done well makes everything possible, and the work of our people transforms communities”.
Formerly with the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired/Goodwill of the Finger Lakes as Chief Operating Officer, Tim has had the opportunity to be part of two very vibrant “social enterprises”.
Tim has taken these insights and learnings into the creation of Rochester Community inclusive Rowing (RCiR), a charitable 501c3. With no paid employees and over two dozen volunteers, RCiR has removed barriers to rowing for people with varying challenges from Intellectual/developmental disabilities, Veterans, Veterans with service related challenges, people with Vision Loss/Blindness, Traumatic Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy, Cancer ”Battlers”, Cancer Survivors , Multiple Sclerosis and people living with Autism. Involvement with RCiR is at no charge or expense. “No one pays and no one gets paid.” In support of this mission the first ever dedicated therapeutic sculling center (5180 sq. ft.), was completed in December of 2019. This $600,000+ project was completed with no grant or corporate donations, and has created new possibilities for many people and will for years to come. A fundamental operating belief is confirmed by research in the book “The Blue Mind”, that there is “great healing power by being on, in or near the water”.
In 2021, Tim became a Foundation Trustee of Vera House, Inc. in Syracuse, NY. Vera House prevents, responds to and partners to end domestic and sexual violence and other forms of abuse.
Tim received his Bachelors of Science in Industrial Engineering from RIT, an Executive MBA from the Fuqua School at Duke University, and his Master’s degree in Organizational Development and Theory from American University/National Training Laboratories in Washington, D.C. Tim has been an adjunct professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology for over 20 years in the E. Philip Saunders College of Business MBA Program and the Masters of Product Development Program in concentrations of Leadership, Business Management, Product Commercialization, Personal and Professional Development, and Change Management.
Tim is a graduate and guest speaker for the Leadership Coaching Certificate Program (LCCP), certified by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). LCCP provides experiential and practice-based learning for a broad group of academic, business, and community change agents. Participants share an interest in exploring leadership development and issues related to implementing effective strategies for promoting transformational change within individuals and organizations with a focus on social justice.
