Senior Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator
Jane Miller retired after 35 years from the University of Virginia in 2019. She was a member of the Athletics Department as a coach and an administrator starting in 1983. Miller attended Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts as an undergraduate and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for her Master’s degree.
As the lacrosse coach at UVA, Miller compiled a 12-year record of 145-44 from 1984-1995. During that time, she led the Cavaliers to six NCAA Final Four appearances and two National Championships in 1991 and 1993. She was the NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year in 1991 and has been inducted into seven Hall of Fames including the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame. She was honored with an endowed scholarship in her name funded by her former student-athletes in 2013.
After turning to administration, Miller supervised all 25 sport programs at some point in her career while serving on numerous department and University committees. Jane also served on a wide variety of Atlantic Coast Conference Committees including Women’s Lacrosse committees, Women’s Basketball Committee, Men’s Lacrosse Committee, Baseball Committee and Equity Committee. In 2003, Miller was named to the NCAA Championships and Competition Cabinet and became Chair in 2011. She was the first Senior Woman Administrator named to the NCAA Division I Board of Directors. During her career, she received numerous leadership awards from the University including the coveted Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, the Elizabeth Zintle Award and the Pale Z Award.
