All of this makes running a club or coaching a team both exciting and challenging. We understand that you have a lot of questions and USRowing’s Annual Convention can help give answers and advice. Each day, a keynote speaker will kick us off before we dive into webinars, guest speakers, hands-on demonstrations and more. Barry is a dynamic and engaging diversity and inclusion facilitator, designer and strategic partner dedicated to helping to empower individuals and groups to achieve sustainable and productive results utilizing the skills and talents of the entire workforce. Realizing, early in his career, the importance of diversity and inclusion, Barry has over the years worked closely with leaders and managers to understand the power of inclusion. His work has led to key roles in helping organizations to design and develop key diversity and inclusion strategy, and facilitation assignments that have made a difference in organizations’ retention and employee engagement rate. Barry integrates diversity management principles as a core business strategy when working with clients and facilitates understanding of its importance to long-term success and productivity.

Barry has worked with several organizations in designing, developing and implementing diversity and inclusion strategies. During his tenure with First Union/CoreStates Bank, Barry was lead diversity consultant to the Consumer and Banking Division, which numbered approximately 8,000 employees. His responsibilities included coordination and management of diversity senior leadership sessions, as well as, consulting on the implementation of diversity management strategies within each business line. Barry’s work with senior leaders was instrumental in the division becoming one of the most successful areas of the bank to meet diversity milestones. Barry’s duties also included conducting and analyzing of needs assessments and designing and delivering diversity programs to front line employees.

After leaving the banking industry, Barry continued to help businesses link the importance of diversity and inclusion to the organization’s bottom line. As Manager of Organizational Development and Training at The Washington Post, Barry was influential in creating a diversity strategy for its Circulation Department. Under Barry’s guidance and working with a diversity committee, he was able to deliver awareness training and establish a diversity strategy within the first year of operation. The strategy helped the department to increase employee retention and engagement within eighteen months of being established.

As an independent consultant, Barry was a member of Sodexo’s Diversity and Inclusion consulting team delivering their award-winning program, “Spirit of Diversity” to managers and leaders of the organization. In addition, he provided facilitation and design support to the employee network groups. Barry has also been a diversity and inclusion facilitator for two leading pharmaceutical companies.

Today, he continues to be influential in helping organizations to address diversity, inclusion and unconscious bias by delivering impactful courses to Montgomery College, The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission Department of Parks and Recreation, and Federal Aviation Administration.

Barry earned a Master of Science in Organization Development from American University/ National Training Laboratory Institute, where he served as an Adjunct Professor, and a Bachelor Degree in Advertising from Pennsylvania State University. Barry is certified in a number of programs including: NTL- Diversity Practitioner Program, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strength Deployment Inventory, and Conflict Dynamics Profile. He also is a member of the National Training Laboratory Institute (NTL), and International Coach Federation (ICF), Center for Creative Leadership- Adjunct Coach and Faculty, in addition to several other professional organizations.
