Helping athletes find happiness and enjoyment in their sport is such a rewarding part of coaching. However, athlete happiness can be elusive given that many athletes have a history of mental health concerns, and the competitive environment creates unique stressors that can heighten emotions. The mental health needs of athletes are increasing, and we can adjust by offering more support so that we’re equipped to help athletes cope effectively within the training environment and performance situations. This session will offer an understanding of athlete mental health with a particular focus on performance anxiety, panic attacks, and generalized worries. The goal is to help you create a plan that identifies support systems and methods that you can effectively implement to promote mental health, help athletes perform up to their potential, and help them understand the importance of finding happiness on and off the water.
